Leadership and success aren’t built in one meeting. They’re built by becoming someone who keeps showing up. — Michele Peterson
One of my favorite summer rituals is wandering through the garden with my morning coffee to see how my roses are doing.
Some mornings I’m greeted by gorgeous new blooms that seem to have appeared overnight.
Other mornings, I notice petals scattered on the ground after yesterday’s heat. A bloom that’s finished its season. Leaves that need a closer look. A branch that’s grown a little wild and could use some gentle guidance.
I never stand there thinking, “Well, I guess this rose bush has failed.” I simply give it what it needs that day.
Sometimes that means deadheading the spent blooms. Sometimes it means watering a little more deeply because it’s been especially hot. And sometimes it means simply admiring what’s already growing.
When winter comes, I’ll prune the rose bushes while they’re dormant — not because they’re broken, but because that’s what healthy growth requires in a different season.
I don’t start over every spring.
I don’t dig them up and plant new ones because one week wasn’t spectacular.
I return to them, season after season, giving them the care they need when they need it.
And somewhere between watering, pruning, feeding, and simply showing up …
They flourish.
The longer I’ve been an entrepreneur, the more I’ve realized our businesses grow in much the same way.
Not because we have one brilliant week. Not because we hold one life-changing CEO Meeting.
But because we keep showing up.
Week after week.
Season after season.
YOU, Inc. Leadership Series
You are the CEO of the most important business you’ll ever build: YOU, Inc.
Throughout this series, we’ve explored what it means to lead your business with greater intention — creating space for a Weekly CEO Meeting, protecting your attention, asking thoughtful questions, and making decisions that move your business forward.
This week, we’re bringing those ideas together with one final reminder:
Leadership isn’t built in one extraordinary meeting. It’s built by showing up again next week.

By the end of this article, you’ll discover:
- Why consistency — not perfection — is what builds confident leadership.
- What my rose garden has taught me about growing a sustainable business.
- Why every Weekly CEO Meeting doesn’t have to be groundbreaking to be valuable.
- How success is built in the days between your CEO Meetings.
- One question to carry with you as we close this month’s YOU, Inc. series.
Leadership Is a Practice, Not a Performance
When we began this YOU, Inc. series, I encouraged you to create space for a Weekly CEO Meeting. Not because another meeting belonged on your already-full calendar, but because leaders need time to think.
The following week, we talked about protecting that space — choosing thoughtful leadership over constant reaction.
Then we explored the questions that help us see our businesses more clearly.
Last week, we talked about making the decisions that move our businesses forward.
Each article built on the one before it.
But here’s something I hope you’ll remember long after this series ends:
None of those habits were ever the destination.
They were simply the practices that help us become better leaders.
If you’ve missed any of the earlier articles, this is a great time to go back and revisit them. Together, they form a simple leadership rhythm you can return to every week.
Your Best CEO Meeting Probably Isn’t the One You Think It Is
It’s easy to imagine that a successful Weekly CEO Meeting should end with a huge breakthrough.
We like to envision coming away with a brand-new business idea, a perfectly organized quarterly plan, or maybe a major decision nailed down.
And sometimes we will.
But many weeks … most weeks … we won’t.
Some meetings simply remind you that you’re already focusing on the right things. Some help you notice a problem before it becomes a crisis.
Others give you permission to slow down after an especially busy season. While some help you celebrate progress you’ve been too busy to notice.
And those meetings matter just as much as those that end with a breakthrough.
Because leadership isn’t measured by how dramatic your breakthroughs are.
It’s measured by your willingness to keep returning to the table.
Success Happens Between the Meetings
Here’s something I’ve been thinking about lately …
The Weekly CEO Meeting isn’t actually where your business changes. It’s just where you decide how you’ll lead.
The real transformation happens afterward.

It happens on ordinary Tuesday mornings when you choose to follow through on the priority you identified.
It happens when you protect your calendar instead of saying yes to everything.
It happens when you remember the question you wrote down during your meeting and let it guide a difficult conversation later.
It happens when you make the decision you’ve been avoiding.
In other words …
Success is built in the space between your CEO Meetings.
The meeting gives you direction.
Your daily choices bring that direction to life.
That’s why consistency creates confidence.
Every time you return to your Weekly CEO Meeting — and every time you act on what comes from it — you reinforce something even more important than your to-do list.
You reinforce your trust in yourself.
Every Season Requires Different Leadership
One of the reasons I love gardening is that it reminds me there isn’t one right way to care for a plant all year long.
The roses need different things in July than they do in January.
The garden has seasons. And so does your business.
There will be seasons of rapid growth. Seasons of simplifying. Seasons of rebuilding. And seasons when life outside your business needs more of your attention.
Your Weekly CEO Meeting should reflect those seasons.
Some weeks you’ll plan exciting new projects. Other weeks you’ll simply ask, “What needs my care this week?”
Both are leadership.
Both move your business forward.
Becoming the Leader Your Business Needs
When we first started this series, I invited you to think like the CEO of YOU, Inc.
I hope that invitation feels a little different now.
Not because you’ve become a different person. But because you’ve started practicing different habits.
You’ve created space.
You’ve protected your attention.
You’ve asked better questions.
You’ve made thoughtful decisions.
And if you keep returning to those practices, something else begins to change …
You.
Little by little. Week by week.
Not through one dramatic breakthrough.
But through quiet consistency.
Six months from now, I hope you won’t simply be someone who occasionally schedules a CEO Meeting.
I hope you’ll be someone who naturally pauses before reacting.
Someone who protects her attention.
Someone who asks thoughtful questions.
Someone who makes intentional decisions.
Someone who returns the following week ready to learn, adjust, and lead again.
Because that’s what confident CEOs do.
You don’t become the confident CEO of YOU, Inc. by having one exceptional meeting.
You become her one ordinary Tuesday at a time.
💛 Action Step
As you prepare for your next Weekly CEO Meeting, resist the temptation to judge it by how productive or groundbreaking it feels.
Instead, ask yourself:
“How can I show up well for this season of my business?”
Then give yourself permission to lead from exactly where you are — not where you think you should be.
Remember, your business doesn’t need a perfect CEO.
It needs one who keeps showing up.
💭 A Question Worth Sitting With
If I continue showing up this way every week for the next year … who will I become?

FAQs
A single productive week can create momentum, but lasting success comes from consistently showing up for your business over time. Small leadership habits repeated week after week build confidence, strengthen decision-making, and create sustainable growth.
Just as a garden needs different care throughout the year, your business requires different kinds of leadership depending on the season you’re in. Some weeks are for growth, others for simplifying, recovering, or maintaining progress. Effective leaders adapt without abandoning the habit of showing up.
Confidence isn’t something you wait to feel before taking action. It develops through repeatedly making thoughtful decisions, following through on your priorities, learning from experience, and trusting yourself more with each passing week.
Planning creates direction, but transformation happens in the daily choices that follow. The conversations you have, the boundaries you keep, the priorities you protect, and the actions you take between planning sessions are what ultimately move your business forward.
Instead of measuring success by dramatic breakthroughs, notice how you’re changing. Are you reacting less? Thinking more intentionally? Protecting your time? Making decisions with greater confidence? Those gradual shifts are signs that you’re growing as a leader.
Lasting habits grow from identity rather than willpower. When you begin to see yourself as the confident CEO of YOU, Inc., showing up consistently becomes part of who you are — not just another task on your to-do list.
Sustainable success isn’t about constant hustle or chasing breakthrough moments. It’s about creating leadership habits you can maintain through every season of business and life, allowing confidence, clarity, and meaningful progress to build over time.
