4 Time Management Methods to Try if Time Blocking Isn’t For You

What’s the very best way to manage your time and get things done? The answer is different for everyone.

Because the very best time management method for you is the one that works for you, in your current work situation and your season of life.

Time Blocking is Powerful, but It’s Not for Everyone

As powerful as it is, traditional time blocking may not work for you.

Maybe you have to deal with frequent, unexpected interruptions. Maybe your schedule is directed by the demands of others. Or maybe time blocking just feels too restrictive and diminishes your productivity rather than enhancing it.

Whatever the reason, instead of trying to make a round peg fit into a square hole, I suggest experimenting with other alternatives to find what does work for you. And that’s why I’m sharing today’s video.

4 Alternative Time Management Methods for You to Try

Here are the four time management methods explained in the video:

  1. To Do List + Prioritization based on the importance and urgency of each task
  2. To Do List + Time Options and Pivot Points with projected times based on a guesstimate of the time required for each task or past time tracking of similar tasks and a plan to adjust as needed
  3. Flexible Blocking where you plan to adjust your time blocks along the way as needed throughout the day
  4. Commitment + Flexibility to Complete Specific Tasks where your schedule for any given day isn’t bound to specific times at all but rather doing whatever it takes to complete the tasks at hand

The beauty of it is that you don’t necessarily have to choose just one of these methods. You can mix and match to find what best serves you.

Experiment and Find What Works Best for You

The primary goal of time management is being more intentional about how you use your time. It’s about taking control of your day and optimizing your productivity.

It shouldn’t feel like a chore or a burden, but rather an empowering guide to keep you on track.

So, try some of these methods on for size. Pay attention to what works, and what doesn’t. Then make the alterations needed to make your time management system a perfect fit … whatever that looks like for you.

And continue to be open to changing things up as needed. Remember, time management is meant to serve you, not the other way around.
